Pricing as follows:
Pets : $2,300 - $4,500
Breeder: 4,500 to 6,500
Why do Bengal cats cost so much. Please read the following: It sums it up pretty good and it will be worth your while.... in understanding the costs involved in being a responsible-reputable Bengal Cat breeder. By the way a lot of other breeders start their pets a 3,500 but I don't do that I like to keep my prices down in order for more people to afford to take home a Bengal kitten. I also give you a nice gift pack that is not offered by other breeders. It has the current food, toys, coupons, plus a larger gift included. It has the test results for HCM, PK and PRA papers on the Adults. I also include information on a safe place to get you alter. As a heads up...Never believe a breeder that says they test with no proof on the kitten's parents. Ask to see the testing I think you may be surprised at the answers you will get.
As a Bengal breeder.... I automatically get a bad reputation with all. Other Bengal Breeders can't wait to try to discredit my reputation. I am their competition especially since I have been breeding and showing Bengal's for about 20 plus years and there is not a whole lot I have not seen. Not to mention in general that responsible breeders are Ultimately lumped up in with back yard breeders which can include Puppy Mills, Kitten mills along with Pet shop mills. But I can assure you there is a huge difference between myself and back yard breeders or any type of a "animal mill".
My cats and kittens:
What most people see are my large marked, colorful, glittered, healthy and happy kittens playing on my site with prices starting at 2,300 to 4,500 for pets and much higher for breeders. Most people think! "Wow is she making a Killing with her prices" This is so not true! Unfortunately, as a pet buyer you do not see all the costs behind the scenes that it takes to raise our cats. Lets look at a few of those costs. In general, the kittens are priced by the requirements of the TICA show rings regardless if you are showing a kitten or not. What comes into play you may ask: Their head type, body confirmation, horizonal flow, Size of the markings, thin or fat tails, large ears, small ears, spots on the tummy even their walk. There is a lot we look at including the show faults on each kitten such as a kinked tail, lockets that will not do well in the show rings but as far as a pet goes it really has no adverse effect on the kitten as far as a loving pet. I spend a lot of time with every kitten holding them walking around with them introducing them to different sounds working with them, so they are very outgoing and loving kittens for you and that does take a lot of time.
What are Start up Costs:
While my girls remain in my home in their own rooms. My boy must have adequate living space so he can be happy. His area must be set up for him to be able to play, run, jump and be happy as a cat should be. This is a area where you are able to keep it 100% clean. After all whole males do spray due to their natural instinct and racing hormones. His area will require heat in cold and Air conditioning in the summer. Cutting costs in this area or any of my area's is not an option!
My girls and kitten area's:
I mentioned earlier my girls also need an area to stay in when their hormones are running a-muck and they are spraying. My expecting mothers need a different spot to be in to have their kittens and then a different spot to raise their litters.
Then a lot of time is spent touching, holding, playing and getting kittens use to the loud noises of the house such as the TV, Vacuum, clanking of the dishwater and ect…
Cost for Breeders:
We also have to purchase our breeders first off. This can be very expensive for us depending on what we are needing at the time. Then we have to continue to bring in outside lines to keep our cats healthy. These costs for breeders is at least double if not in most cases triple to what you as a pet buyer pays. To buy a single cat from Russia or in the states may cost as much as 6,500.00 a breeder.
TESTING:
Then all responsible breeders must do the testing on their adults prior to breeding them. Along with the normal FELV-FIV testing that I would hope all breeders do. You must also test for HCM. This is a test to make sure your cats do not have any (Heart) problems. This test can run as much as 600.00 a test on a single cat. I also test for kidney disease with a PK-Deficiency test with the added PRA testing (Eye disease) Causes blindness. The cost just keeps going up.
Not all breeders do these test.. I also make sure my Cats and kittens are free of any stool disorders that may stink up your homes. This is a major problem with a lot of the kittens sold at other catteries. I do these tests because I want to know when I sell you a kitten, I have done my part to sell you the heathiest kitten I can.
Normal Costs:
Then we have the same costs as everyone else has with the exception of...we are Buying litter in Bulk along with Food, Toys, Cat Tree's and ect…
Unexpected Cost:
If we have to take a girl to the vet to have an Emergency C-section... for Kittens that are to big or if a girl that gets a infection (Pyo) and has to be spayed. This can run into as much as 1,750.00 - 3,200.00 for an Emergency at the vets office.. After we are done with a breeder, we also have the cost of altering the cat prior to selling her or Him. We also have the cost of maintaining a web site and advertisement. These are all things behind the scenes.
I remember not to many years back I purchased a breeder female as a kitten. I had her one week and she was stolen by a person coming into my home to look at kittens. This is one of the reasons I require a deposit prior to someone coming to my home. IT HAPPENS!
Breeding be Stressful:
Despite of what some people think breeding cats can be very stressful and as you can see by now... there are many factors that come into play as a Responsible and Reputable breeder So not every thing is so cut and dry when breeding cats. It can be an emotional roller coaster at times.
I hope by now you can understand that there are many costs that as a pet buyer you do not see but as far as pricing a kitten, they are priced on their show value. Please keep reading below.
PET Prices:
Prices for pets according to quality. Those that are pet quality will be priced lower than those of a higher quality, as pets. The pet prices do start at 2,300 and can go as high at 4,500 depending on the kitten itself. I have been showing my cats for 25 years so I can pretty much tell you which kittens will do well in the show rings. I have a vast knowledge of show rings and have worked as a TICA clerk with many Judges in there rings. Most of the high color and glittered kittens sell for about 2,300 and up as a general price.
FYI: We will not sell a pet quality kitten as breeder but we will sell breeder quality kittens as pets. It is impossible to place out all breeder type kittens for breeders so the left overs go for high quality pets which works out great for you.
Breeder: (Cats and Kittens with breeding rights to TICA registered catteries only): starting at $4,500.00 (again prices range according to quality and can go as high as $6,500.00 or more. Male breeder kittens are always priced higher because a male can have a 20 year or longer breeding life. Where a female may only have a to 4 to 8 years of breeding life or less depending on the lines of the female.
If you purchase a Cazpurr Bengal kitten as a Pet most times it will have all the qualities of a show kitten and we still price the kitten according to quality of that kitten for the show ring. If the kitten has show faults I lover the price of the kitten and explain why.
NOTE: We will not sell breeding animals to anyone unless the person making the purchase either is an experienced cat breeder that is registered with at least one major cat registry like TICA, ACFA or CFA. If the person is a breeder just starting out and demonstrates sufficient knowledge of the breed, breed traits, breed standard and good breeding practices. The new breeder must also either have an experienced mentor or is willing to have us mentor them.
SHOW
A show quality cat/kitten meets the TICA bengal standard with no current show faults. However, a kitten can develop show faults as time moves on after he is in your care. Show quality kittens can also be purchased as breeders but the price will still be the high show quality price. Show quality cats occasionally will be made available as altered pets but again, they will be priced according to quality.
Keep in mind that the breeder which is ME always gets the first pick of any litter if I choose to take the first pick. If I don't take first pick then that pass's on to you to be first pick. For-instance if you have your deposit down with me for 1st pick and I choose to take first pick of that litter then you move down to 2nd pick. Being the Breeder there must be some advantages with all this hard work. This very seldom happens here with me taking pick, but I do want the option.
Most cats have a few show quality traits, but you have to look at the overall cat or kitten to make that determination. I always encourage you to go to a few cat shows to see what the current show quality cat may look like. Ask any bengal breeder exhibiting and they will certainly help you to see what traits a show quality bengal should have. Always keep in mind that all cat show Judges have their own opinion on which is the best show cat. :)
Make sure to fill out the "Waiting list form" so I can contact you when I have a new litter of kittens.
